No they are just daft! Paint a turd Black and White up there and someone
will buy it!
I said at the start of the season that it had gone out of control at the
Professional level and that people were bored of seeing over paid, molly
coddled, arrogant young men being paid double their yearly salary per
week. I posted a thread saying it HAD to be time to consider a salary cap
WORLDWIDE (Check out the crowds in Italy for instance!!!!!) or the game
was in danger of a severe downturn. The general response was "Nahh you
can't do that because ..." Which is fair enough, but sure enough - look at
what's happening! EXACTLY what I said. Crowds are down, although
interestingly enough I see crowds on the whole are actually UP in the
lower leagues. You obviously have the extreme examples of FC United and
AFC Wimbledon. But I reckon some people are seeing sense, realising they
love the game but the game they love is not represented at the top level
and gone to watch a lower league team (There is a hint of nostalgic
thinking perhaps in this I know) but I've been to a lot of lower league
games - Bored working away from home etc. - and had some great times at
Barnet, Wycombe, Orient etc. When you can see game of footy STANDING! for
maybe £12, the players are blatantly giving their all, their is a fair
amount of skill down there - NO it's not Ronaldo or Henry, but it's a good
honest product at a good honest price! The fans are quite amiable and
willing to talk about FOOTBALL, with that dry British sense of humour
almost constantly underlying any conversation. The 'Prawn Sandwich
Brigade' will stick to going to Old Trafford or Anfield half a dozen times
a year because they think they know the game inside out just because they
watch Football Focus now every week. Discussing share and bond prices with
their chums at the local Golf Club and just slipping in the odd "Oh yah,
Steve Gerrard really is super isn't he what what what. I went to the
Arsenal game you know, yah, got tickets from the boss. Really super game
what what what". But they get bored at ER or St James Park or Man City
because their team isn't winning every week and like the spoilt little
twats they are they piss off back to suburbia to practice weird sex with
each other ... Sorry have I gone off on one???
