My thing is with this is that we keep churning out promising youths who look the part at 17,18,19 then we sell them off and by and large they go on to great lower league careers despite howls of protest at selling another of our own!

tinkler forrester cousins singh keogh etc...

or they stay, do quite well and eventually get slated

Harte kewell speed etc.....

you can't win!

Not to mention Alan Smith...

I think you're being a bit harsh here. Robinson IS England's number one
while
playing for a club that is clearly on the up in the Premiership. That's
hardly a failed career. Woodgate is world class - Bobby Robson and the
folks at
Real Madrid are no fools. He's just had bad luck with injuries, but most
reviews
I've seen of his performances at 'Boro have been very, very good, and
that
he'll soon be back in the England squad. Likewise, I know that Charlton
have been
shipping goals, but most reports say that Carson is the only reason the
numbers aren't in double figures. Milner's Premiership club (Newcastle)
just
rebuffed a multi-million pound offer for him from Martin O'Neill at
Villa (another
manager not known for being a bad choice of talent). Lennon didn't look
"too
lightweight" as he danced around half of the Portugal side in the World
Cup,
effectively ending Beckham's international career in the process. Gary
Speed has
played more games in the Premiership than any other player (I think) -
that's
hardly a failed career.

Cheers!

Sean
