Well, ups and downs and all that. This morning's talk of administration is
well timed, as I'm still a bit numb from the weekend. Better to get is all
out of the way in one go. But Did Gary Richardson on the Today Programme
have it right - even if we go into admin by the end of the week, we'd take a
points deduction for *next* season? That can't be right.

Then there was this:
http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2007/04/29/afx3665520.html - Graeme
Souness and Mike McDonald (ex Blades chairman) to buy relegated Leeds
(presumably off the administrators...).

One upside. Even with all these financial woes, we'll be by far the richest
side in the 3rd division. Even allowing for reduced interest in the games
and Uncle Ken's wacky pricing policies, we should probably be getting 10k
through the turnstiles. Most of the grounds in this div don't even have a
10k capacity (mental note: might actually be worth checking capacities
elsewhere before asserting that fact), so in terms of income, we still ought
to be able to pay good wages and get better than average players to win us
promotion.

Cool heads must prevail. We can't afford more than one term in the 3rd, so
it's gritted teeth time, someone needs to get a grip on the money, and we
need solid competent players. I went to Cheltenham Town v Northampton a few
months ago (might have even been last season...) and it was DIRE (worse even
that LUFC v Ipswich at Portman Road this season). Outstanding player? Ian
Taylor, formerly of Villa, who was about 39 at the time, but bossed the
entire game. It was like the Wermacht at the fall of Berlin - all the
fighting was being done by veterans of previous wars, the walking wounded
and young kids who looked almost too small to wear the uniform.

If we can hold onto a few of this season's better (but less bankable)
players, pay a few world-wise veterans to do the business for a decent
pre-retirement contract and bring through some new blood, we ought to cope.
I know that's hardly glamourous. But we're 3rd div now, so we need steel,
realism and confidence to get us out asap.

(Depressed as I am, I'm still looking forward to the fixture list coming out
and planning my away games. Now *that* is the tragedy of being Leeds
fan...)
