Subject: Re: [LU] Brian Robson & Brian Kidd to Blunts
I have to say I agree with almost every word of this. The big five issues which
caused the collapse were, in not particular order: The trials, and what flowed
from them (O'Leary's book, trouble in the dressing room, difficulty finding
sponsors, and distractions that must have cost us a few critical points on the
field); the injury crisis (the biggest, longest-running, of any major team that
I can recall, with over a dozen first team players (and quite a few of their
replacements) for at least half a season, including Bridges, Batty, Kewell,
Martyn, Woodgate, Radebe, Kelly, Matteo, Johnson and Fowler; Ridsdale's
ludicrous financial dealings (I'm convinced many of the players on huge
contracts would have signed for us on less money); the appointment of Brian
Kidd (a terrible decision that I increasingly believe O'Leary made with one eye
on replacing Ferguson at Old Trafford), which robbed our side of excitement and
attacking verve; and that f'g decision to disallow Wes Brown's own goal, which
if it had counted (and the replays show it should have) would have put us back
into the Champions League.
Cheers!
Sean (temporarily Baghdad White)

I don't. Infact I think thats an understatement.
oney matters aside I trace our footballing demise as to starting when
idd was taken on. Upto that moment we were playing attractive,
ree-flowing fast football which suited the young team. The carefree
ttitude was slowly and naturally being eroded and we were TOP of the
remiership. Suddenly, this air of caution crept into our game and it's no
o-incidence that this happened as soon as Kidd got his useless,
ver-rated mitts onto the team.
e'd worked under Ferguson who, love him or hate him, is the best MANAGER
n the country (Or he certainly was then) a very strong character and Kidd
id what Ferguson told him. Based on that he went to Blackburn believing
e was a coaching god and, very much like Blackwell, found out coaches do
ot make managers. Then he came in here giving it the big I am and
nstilled an unnatural game into the team. We started losing, we started
etting nervous, we started going backwards. The rest is shrouded under
he financial implosion but on a football front that tosspot ruined Leeds
nited on the pitch.
op 5? Make that Top 1 ... EVERY time.

Seriously though - Robson was not at Leeds (and never has been) when
Kidd helped to bollox things up, I blame a lot of things for our demise,
but Kidd is definitely in the top 5 of that list.
Steve
I think that's probably overstating it...but not by much.

I don't know that I'd agree. I see Robson as the real problem, not
Kidd.
