I can only speak for myself, but the dislike (hatred maybe) towards Bates is because before he came to Leeds he was someone who constantly talked shite, was deliberately always provocative and was so close to doing to Chelsea what happened to us (only Abramovic stopped that happening). Since he came to Leeds he has hiked up season tickets hugely, alienated large amounts of people, reduced crowd sizes, taken fans for granted (been positively rude to them at time), sacked a manager part way into a season when he should have either let him carry on or never extended the contract in the first place and generally been an arsehole (which is his way of course). This is why he has most definitely *not* done what is in the football club's best interest. Frankly, I don't buy this better the devil you know attitude at all.
