Most of those funny stories happen when someone clicks 'reply to all'
instead of just 'reply', or they don't delete some email history.

It seems to have happened because Rick created a new email rather than
replied, and then sent it to the list assuming the original was also sent to
the list.

As I don't tend to create new emails from scratch to the list (I reply to an
existing list email and then delete the contents) I think I am safe.

Although I did have several replies on the go once and wrote something about
juicy melons to a supplier! :)
