<<snip> I also think that although the revenue did want to try and challenge football's "special creditor" status they were more interested in finding out more about the tax-dodging, Monaco-dwelling friend of off-shore account company Astor, K W Bates and that was why they challenged the CVA. Only my opinion of course...... *** Spot on the money. I was talking to a mate who works for HMRC in obe of their compliance departments last night. He's asked around and it's the Special Civil Investigatgions department that have their eye one Bates: this is the department that looks at the most serious cases. Also Serious Fraud Office sniffing around and a mate of his is aware of a hefty CPS file of "compelling evidence" over Bates' activities. Yes, HMRC aren't happy with the rule about footballing creditors, but in this situation, it really is Bates that they are after (There's the capital gains tax from the Chelsea sale to start with). I'm sure everyone still in this debate has read "Broken Dreams" by now, and it's that history that we are now paying the price for. - Sean _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
