Was a very mixed afternoon - another big crowd (to date we are averaging more than anyone in Championship and only 12 teams in the Prem are ahead of us) and with it being Cat A and with there being no concessions by Friday it should be a nice earner for the club. Once again there was a real buzz before the game and this was kept up during the match with all 4 stands of Leeds fans standing and singing at times - brilliant. The result was great, to see off the 15 point deduction in 5 games really is fairytale stuff even in the Third Division and we are already within touching distance of the bottom clubs and are not that far away from the play offs !! The 2 goals were both classic (watch them if you can!!) - the first a lovely ball by Howson found Frazer who hit a lovely cross and Tres leapt well and powered a great header into the net 1 - 0 A real centre forwards team goal, and well deserved at the time. The second was even better a big hit forward from Carole was taken down superbly by Beckford who with his next touch delivered a delicate chip over the keepers head and the crowd (and Becks himself) went wild. In addition Kandol showed how confident he now is with an overhead kick when their keeper cocked up - shame it was so far off target but well worth a go . We also had one other great chance when Kandol failed to spot Carole unmarked and found his new best mate Becks instead and the chance went begging. So that was all the good stuff - however once we went one up we basically stopped playing and let them dictate most of the rest of the game - hitting the post at least 3 times , having a couple cleared off the line and bringing an absolutely blinding save out of Casper. I am sure our goal had magical powers yesterday. Yet despite that I always felt we would win. I am sure they will be bemoaning their bad luck and they are the best opposition I have seen this season. It was nice to see Ian Moore get a good reception and respond to it with a thumbs up. It is too easy to boo ex players (Robbie Elliott yesterday for instance) just because they are ex players and not taking into account how they played for us and how they came to leave. Like Sean I sit in Kop and all the action second half was down the South Stand end so it was hard to see who was at fault but I would suggest that Howson, apart from the ball to Frazer, and maybe one goal-line clearance (may not have been him) was Mr Invisible. Prutton is not a wide right player and Frazer is dodgy defensively at times. Heath & Rui were solid, Casper is a great shot stopper but less good at crosses, Clapham was OK. Hughes was a revelation and if he can play like this Douglas should not get a look in - he tackled like a demon, covered all the ground and was excellent in his passing. Carole caused them some problems and had a few good runs and a couple of decent shots. Once again Becks and Kandol were our main men and if they can keep it going will score a hatful of goals. So with one or two concerns it was another good day to be a Leeds fan ( the icing on the cake being a hat trick of England victories in cricket, rugby and football) Dave _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
