well, the difference is perhaps that behind the clubs stand people with deep pockets. For what ever accounting reason Abrahamovic (and others) chooses to loan Chelsea money instead of investin it, the only way these top 4 clubs will do a Leeds is if their owners loose interest and decide to sell up, leaving the club in the hands of opertunistic buyers not able to handle the debt.
