Sorry to shatter the illusion of us hard drinking northern monkeys but I do
have standards, the beer was crap (no bitter or mild) and the cognac wasn't
good enough, not lowering my standards from Hennessey XO or Renaud-Delile
1906 (from La Brousse, Matha, near to my in-laws house) even for free
booze.

Slightly off topic, but are the Woodhouse Grange who just won the
Village Cricket Cup Final from Woodhouse in Leeds?

If they are, I've played for them!

If anyone is interested, my career statistics for them read:
Innings 1 Runs 0 Notout 0 Balls faced 7

At last - someone who realises there is a difference between south of
the
river and South Yorkshire

What's this South Yorkshire shite? West Riding, East Riding and North
Riding is Yorkshire....

Hunslet Feast - ah yes, my first induction to the delicacy of Brandy
Snap

Hunslet RLFC - watched my elder brother who was 14 at the time lose his
RUGBY UNION final 9-3 at that ground (he scored the three points) whilst

playing for Parkside Secondary, then I went back a couple of weeks later
to
sample the Hunslet feast! Then they turned the feckin' place into an
industrial estate!

Anyone remember the old derelict Air Cadets place, with all the old
military
vehicles dumped in it -somewhere between the Broadway/allotments and
Remploy? For you lot north of the river, that's slumland; and for those
of
us from Beeston, that's the area just east of the Dewsbury Road
allotments,
but not quite as far as the Crescent Cinema or the site of the feast!

Google Earth might be fascinating, but it don't show nostalgia, or the
crappy places we were dragged up LOL

OzPete
ps Phil, I witnessed me eldest brother getting beaten up by a gippo when
he
was 14, for looking at a gippo girl - her 17 yo brother got 'im!
(that
was 48 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday)

STOP THIS NOW!

There is no point in tinkering with the rules. The whole concept is
rotten to the core. Just scrap the whole sport (both codes) and let the
macho wankers form drinking and childishly-obscene-song-singing clubs
and they'll be happy.

While we're about it, let's ban those other abominations on the name of
sport....boxing and car racing.

Oh and just to complete the questions Briggsy came up with ... The line
out needs scrapping if Union is to become more exciting. Take away any
potential benefit of kicking for touch and they won't do it, simple as.
If
the governing body had any balls they'd come up with something along the
lines of, if you kick it in to touch then it's the oppositions ball ...
from where it was kicked. Scrumdown.

I'm with you part of the way.? I think that making it the opposition's
ball at the spot it goes into touch -- not a line out but ball in hand
-- would do enough to adjust the balance.?

Actually, I think if your rule changes were made it might actually make
the game less exciting by turning it into no more than equivalent of the
old American Football "three yards and a cloud of dust" mentality...

This may be a shock, but Woodhouse Grange played against Ripon in
1952....my first ever game as a 13 year-old with the first team in
Ripon.....similar numbers for me too!!!

That was why I originally hated moving to Canada.....I was playing in
the Yorkshire nets as a prospective Colt...don't know if that programme
is still around. My world was cricket, because I wasn't allowed to play
football....grammar school was rugby at the time.......since I left,
they have smartened up.....Ripon Girls High merged with the Grammar
School.....and real football has become a reality. Even with scholars
it takes time I guess. Good move!!!
