Tommy Elphick knows that now after Tresor Kandol pounced for the winner at
Withdean.
But Albion's rapidly progressing young central defender insists his team were
worth a point, if not more, from their collision with League One's only
unbeaten side.

Kandol and Jermaine Beckford have six League One goals apiece already this
season and Elphick revealed the unpredictable threat they offered in front of
goal.
He said: "They aren't the liveliest, which is where, as a defender, you are at
your most vulnerable.

"You haven't got anything to mark a lot of the time because they are lazy and
they walk around a lot.

"Actually lazy is the wrong word - they're cute. They try to switch you off as
you saw with the goal.

"We switched off and they pounced on the rebound. They're very quick and very
strong."

A flashing header by the previously quiet Beckford, who was first to a Jamie
Clapham cross in the second period, was arguably a better example of how they
can strike.

"Exactly," Elphick said. "You're looking around, you think you're in a
comfortable position and then I think he just got above Adam (El-Abd).

"We escaped there but apart from that I don't think they had too many chances.

"We defended well as a team again. I'd say we looked as threatening as we have
done all season.

"There are more positives than negatives to come out of the game.

"Everyone could see we were on top for most of the game and I'm sure the stats
point to that.

"But unfortunately one mistake has led to the loss of three points or a point.
A point would have been a great result but it wasn't to be."

Elphick said he knew exactly what Jake Robinson was talking about when he
revealed in The Argus that he could feel the pre-game buzz ahead of Leeds'
visit.

The defender said: "Of course. You sense all the hype around the crowd. I hope
they come back because we put on a show for them.

"I know we haven't got the three points but that will come. However many people
there are in the crowd you try to channel that out and try to focus on your job.

"At half-time we were very confident. Personally, I felt comfortable. As a back
five we felt comfortable."
