In fact, the overwhelming majority of Americans (like 90%) probably still think Tony Blair is the UK's Prime Minister and have no idea who Gordon Brown is. Asked straight up who he is they'd probably say a Food Network chef.Second, I think that the fact that you'd get blank faces when asked to identify an Islamic leader probably has more to do with the fact that we are woefully unfamiliar with the Islamic world. I doubt that the average American -- ahhh, fuck it, the average White House official -- could identify even the most major differences between Sunni and Shi'ite Islam. Six years into this ridiculous War on Terror that is a frightening thought.
