Paul, I'm with you on this. I was in the stands when the Vancouver Whitecaps faced Beckham and his L.A. Team just over a week ago. The L.A. Team is no slouch...Landon Donovan could play for anyone in the P.L.....Cobi Jones too. And some of their teammates. Beckham played 72 minutes and very well, I might add. Over 48-thousand were on hand to see the scoreless game....Whitecaps should have won....had a p.k. And fired the bloody ball right at the keeper. Decrepit at 33? you are having a laff. Is McLarens desperation Beckhams fault? You intimate that it is but I'm afraid I fail to see how. McLarens desperation isn't even McLarens fault, we all know that at best McLaren was second choice. You state Beckhams recall smacks of desperation but omit to include the recalls of James and Campbell as similar indicators of desperation. Not that anyone is denying that Second Choice Steve is desperate, England are about to fail to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since USA 94 of course he's desperate! You say McLaren rightly dropped Beckham, this is of course your opinion and if you can name me EIGHT FIT ENGLISH midfielders that are better than Beckham then I'll agree he shouldn't be in the squad but I think you will struggle to name 3, which IMHO puts him in the team. IF Downing, Neville P and 'Will Play, Won't Play' Bentley deserve a place in the squad then I fail to see how Beckham doesn't, he ranks well above ALL those three IMHO. In the squad when Beckham was 'dropped' we had Downing, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Jenas, Lampard, Lennon, Richardson, Wright-Phillips and P Neville - was Beckham really worse than ALL of them? You seem to have an unhealthy envy of Beckham and seem to want to blame him for everything from McLarens foolish flight to LA to Gerrard and Owen declaring their love for Second Choice Steve. What is so special about him gaining 100 caps that makes you want to so vehemently prevent him from doing so? If McClaren hadn't dropped Beckham so rashly he would have his 100 caps now. However should, as is expected, England fail to qualify then why shouldn't the Croatia game and the following friendlies be used to get Beckham to his milestone? After all they will have no other purpose.
