Ironic really, as Second coming is a pastiche of Led Zep. I blame John Squire's
dealer for his 1,001 oversubs.
Their eponymous first LP is untouchable. Peerless. And a debut, too. Magic.
Shame they never lived up to it and took 6 years to squeeze out the flawed turd
that is TSC - which has it moments but some absolute guff liek 'Straight to the
man' which wouldn't have made a b-side in 88.
'She bangs the drums' is an exercise in pop purity. Even the b-sides (Mersey
Paradise/Standign Here) are better than a lot of bands 'hits'.
What bugs me about most of the stuff out by new bands is how derivative most it
is.
I quite like(d) some of the 'post punk' copyist stuff but soem of the current
shite is just, well, shite. Instantly forgettable, Thank f#ck I'm downloading
it, listenign to it and ignoring it rather than buying it.
The Twang sound like a poor man's Northside, who let's be honest were second
rate Roses/Monday's copyist bandwaggoneers.
Strange really, as the S-Roses were accused of being Pysch/Byrds-a-like
copyists in 1989.
Cribs and a few others are ok. A lot seem to have a couple of catchy tunes and
not a lot more, a few years back they'd be singles, not albums. Filler in the
main.
