At the risk of waking the list up and getting views on Leeds United
I know it is not till Monday (gonna be a long weekend with no match !) but I
was trying to work out what the team will look like on Monday night with the 5
new signings.
I reckon there is only Capser, Beckford and maybe Kilkenny who we can certain
will be playing and in what position.
At right back Frazer would seem the obvious choice but prior to his goal last
Sat he was having a nightmare run of form so maybe Wise will drop Prutton back
from midfield to full back or maybe put Hughes who he has used as a left back
there - it would be his natural side of the pitch.
At left back. Parker played well against a side who put him under no real
pressure and Wise has obviously not made up his mind about Parker - we still
seem to be chasing Fox - so maybe Hughes will be put there or maybe Sweeney who
is a natural left footer.
Cente back - it will be 2 from 3 but which 2 ? Huntington, as with Parker,
played well last time he was given a chance and looked very composed on the
ball. Wise (like many managers) always claim that if a player comes in and does
well he will keep the shirt so will Huntington ?
Heath had some good and some bad games (and good and bad bits in all games)
has his limitations but does dovetail quite well with Rui only missed out last
time through suspension and does seem to be a bit of a favourite with Wise.
Darren Kenton - I know nothing about him but they ae describing him as
"Rui-esque" so maybe he will link up with Heath ? Is experienced and has been
playing regularly at a higher level (albeit in midfield for some of the time)
Has been brought in to cover for Rui who would normally be one of the first on
the teamsheet.
Up front - clearly Becks will play but will Flo keep his place or will Kandol
regain his ? Flo has had a great impact coming on as sub but when asked to play
from the start was less effective and sometimes off the pace but has more skill
and a better eye for goal than Kandol. However Kandol had a blistering start to
the season and maybe being dropped will bring out the best in him ?
Midfield - even more options.
Kilkenny after Northants MoM perfromance will most likely be in the centre
but who with ? Hughes and him looked like a good pairing but Bradley Johnson
describes himself as a centre midfield box to box player and Wise is obviously
keen on him so maybe he will get the nod ? Or Howson, now back from injury
after playing for reserves on Wed, another who Wise rates highly , claiming he
should be in the England under 21s and that he is the future of Leeds United.
That still leaves Thommo - has he been disgarded altogher or will his
experience be useful if we have 3 youngsters in midfield ? Sweeney although a
left sided player is also used to being in centre mid and according to Stoke
fans is more effective in the middle than on the left.
Left midfield - Westlake is out so perhaps Sweeney will come in for him, but
maybe Carole will win his place back on that side ? He bagan the season there
and was a huge part in our early winning form. Or maybe Hughes will be moved
there from the centre ? or maybe Sorss for his extra pace ? or Johnson ?
Right midfield - will Prutts keep his place ? Has played at a consistent
level all season and has never let us down but is rarely a match winning
performer. Sorsa or Carole or Johnson could all be brought in on that right
hand side , or even Hughes ? And what about Weston ? Came on and showed
strength and good skill to score v Northants.
So all in all a lot of questions for DW to ponder. Football adages about not
changing a winning side and letting players who have taken their chance keep
their place all come into play, but also if we have paid (comparativley) big
money for players surely they should be on the pitch ?
For the record the team I expect to see is (not nec the one I would choose)
Casper
Frazer , Heath, Huntington, Parker
Prutts, Hughes, Kilkenny, Sweeney
Becks Kandol
With Flo, Johnson, Kenton on the bench with any two from Howson, Weston,
Thompson,Sorsa or maybe the keeper Lucas
