Another desperately poor performance. More points thrown away against another poor team in a tinpot (if new) stadium.
Couldn't argue with the team too much, Marques and Kandol back for Heath and Elding. I don't think chopping and changing too much has helped recently but some of these players need to be justifying their place in the team. I don't think there was a single five minute spell where you could really say we were dominating the game. It was scrappy throughout - similar to Luton and Southend - and there was very little in terms of quality play. In fact when we got a free-kick on the edge of the area with a couple of minutes left, i couldn't think of a single player who i thought might score. In the end Sweeney hit it into the wall. Defence is generally solid, though they need to ask themselves how they let the fat bloke who we all laughed at when he came on, score. Kenton looks decent at right back, Rui and Lubo should be fine with a few games together, not convinced about Sheehan yet. Midfield is a problem, we have dozens of midfielders at the club now, but cant get the right blend. Prutton worked hard to little effect, Hughes ran around to no effect, Howson scored a good goal and had some nice touches but didn't really influence the game much and Johnson was again anonymous. Sweeney did at least manage a couple of decent crosses when he came on. Be tempted to let Sweeney replace Johnson and maybe Kilkenny when fit for Hughes. Upfront Kandol's confidence is complete shot to pieces and Beckford gets more and more frustrated as he tries to do it all on his own and nothing happens. Not sure the options are great here though, its a choice between Fat Bloke (Elding), Thin unfit bloke (Flo) and Big Never Scores Bloke (Kandol). We took the leade against the run of play, they equalised when nothing much was happening, Beckford had a header cleared off the line near the end when we managed a bit of pressure, but a draw was a fair result and the only people who had a good day were probably those fans (about 200 of them) on the hill behind the home end who got a nice free view of the game. We need to sort ourselves out quick, otherwise Forest and Doncaster will beat us and we'll be struggling even for the play-offs.
