I clearly remember, in my "formative" years when following Keighley in the
Bradford League, the crowds slagging off the umpires. This was particularly
prevalent when Keighley played Bradford, Bingley and Windhill. In fact,
I remember, quite well, two occassions when the umpires were manhandled
at the bottom of the pavillion steps. I also remember the likes of Paynter
 and Constantine threatening umpires.

I don't know about now but, in the days I am talking about, the crowds
were counted in thousands. A collection, mainly in threepenny bits, would
bring in over £50 which was ten weeks wages for the "ordinary" working
 man.

 Umpires ? I've s*** 'em !

 regards, Michael (D'sD)
