"oh Barry George is an Innocent man, Oh Barry George is a super Leeds fan"
"He'll stalk again, don't know where....."
That was the reaction of fans to the pics in The Sun yesterday - bad taste but
amused me.
Not too much to add to the earlier reports of other listers.
The weather was atrocious with a particularly strong gusting wind which is not
ideal for football but despite this we persevered with our usual passing game
but adopted a shoot on sight policy to take the conditions into account. As so
often this season we dominated the first half without creating too much and had
a couple of scares at the back - Capser on another recall making one good save
- and we reached half time 0 0. We don't like kicking to the Kop first half.
One point of note, Douglas, when is he going to stick to what he is (very) good
at ? Overall he had a good game breaking up play and covering a lot of ground
but yesterday in the space of a couple of minutes he reverted to being Glen
Hoddle or whoever his boyhood hero was ! He played the ball from the middle of
the park to the left wing where Parker kept it in for Walsall, then seconds
later he does the same pass to the right where it went straight into touch !
Annoying to say the least.
Dougie you are a poor Batty not McAllister !!
Straight from the kick off (which was theirs by the way) Beckford got the ball
and ran the length of the field gaining a corner - second time he has done this
from a kick off with good result. The corner was cleared by one of their
players kicking it against the back of another and the ball bounced back into
the 6 yd box where Becchio turned and slid and put it past the most amusing
keeper in the Division - Clayton Ince who always has a crack with the crowd and
generally seems to be enjoying himself..
The game then continued in much the same way until it became the Fab show. He
went on a little run and was cynically brought down on the edge of the box -
Robbo was introduced USA style to take the free kick but hit it against the
wall and out for a corner. Soon after we got another free kick on the corner of
the area, Robbo shaped to shoot \ cross into the box but instead rolled it 5
yds or so into the path of Fab who just wellied it home, Ince never saw it.
Delph then had another Exocet from outside the box which flashed inches wide,
Becks had a shot that was blocked on the line - looked like handball to me.
Then Robbo beat a man passed to Howson who moved the ball onto Fab who
controlled it and again from outside the box curled another unstoppable shot
into the net - absolute class. He really is top quality and it is just a matter
of how long we can keep hold of him \ how much we get for him \ who we can get
with the money - there is a good bit on
Mavericks report about making sure we get full money for him with add ons etc.
So a good solid performance with 2 class goals and a nice goal poachers one (6
and counting Rich !)
Well worth all the hassle I had getting to and from the game, with no trains
from Manchester to Huddersfield and having to get replacement buses doubling my
journey times !
Defensively it is now a full game and a half since we conceded and whilst we
had a few shaky moments we did seem to be a bit more secure - success breeding
confidence, breeding success etc - lets hope so.
One  minor gripe - why is Robbo not on from the start ? He is class and
especially at home can unlock defences.
But a good week with 6 points from 6 and up to second. Need to get our away
from back on track now.
The official site (and BBC) giving crowd as 26,000 but I am sure they announced
22,000 ?
