First half he wasn't ball winning for Delph and Kilkenny - he was playing as if he was Glenn Hoddle (See Dave's report). When he does play as the "one" in front of the back four he's ok but yesterday first half he didn't. Look at the difference when he was not as involved second half and Howson, Delph and Robinson took over - we were a much better side. Surely you can see that Sean ?
I thought he was involved more in the second half, in his defensive
role. In the second half, Howson & Delph improved their game (Howson
was very poor in the first half and Delph wasn't much better) and
Robinson made a massive difference to the attack when he came on. So
there wasn't the need for him to try and get forward and create things,
allowing him to stick to what I accept he does best, playing as a
defensive midfielder; something which he did very well indeed on
Saturday and has done for most of the season. When we play badly he
sees more of the ball because we're defending and his role is mainly
defensive. I suspect your stance would be that when he sees more of the
ball, we play badly. Have you read any interviews with the other
players and seen what they say about him? They all seem to regard him
as the key player in the midfield. Obviously, they don't know as much
about football as thee and me, but it's an interesting point of view
that they have.
