Now that Mr Ross is in Gardening leave I think it opportune to
reccommend a film or two for Lardy delight:

First up is Terence Davies' new film, "Of Time and City", (check out
Guardian Critic Peter Bradshaw's excellent review at
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/oct/31/of-time-and-the-city) .
Davies uses a sparse budget, the music that was the background to his
growing up and the style of say, Brief Encounter to produce something
which I find instantly recognise from my own youth. "Distant Lives Still
Voices" ranks as one of my all time favourite films and "Of Time and
City" may well be joining it.

My other tip for the top for flickerama fans is "Hunger" by Steve
McQueen (no not that one, the one who won the Turner Prize) for anyone
who remembers or was connected to the dirty protests and the death of
Bobby Sands this film will raise a great deal of questions, many still
unanswerable. Michael Fassbinder stars as Bobby Sands in a film that I
feel looks at the human spirit rather than the wider and ultimately to
difficult to answer political question. Harrowing and brutal but none
the less something I felt was well done how ever hard the subject matter
was to deal with.

Finally, I think the chance to see the fabulous Daniel Craig in
"Quantum Of Solace" will be worth the effort. I have loved daniel ever
since his performance as Geordie Peacock in Peter Flannery's "Our
Friends In The North" and his first outing as 007 was a mild treat for
me. Old Jonty Ross screwed up big style with his interview last week, I
really would like to hear more from Daniel and will be watching eagerly
for anything which is slightly above the plethora of Heat/Hello/Sun
journalism we are bound to be inundated with about this film.

Right now I'm off to ring up a jaded TV star to tell him his wife has a
big backside.

£6 million squid anyone?
