Mixed feelings, and its a case of stable doors, but I don't think
changing managers every blip in results is necessarily a good
solution. As no-one tires of saying, Alex, Arsene and Dario had their
runs which could well have seen them shown the door.

I don't go to games so what do I know, but I have got you guys and
Eddie on Yorkshire radio giving me an idea or two.

There WAS a serious problem and it was not getting solved. And after
a while it has to become the manager's responsibility (you can only
blame players, subordinate coaches for so long).

On the other hand, it's often not appreciated that sometimes the
ultimate manager himself might need some support - which is tricky as
usually those who appointed him are not experts in the field.
It seems that there has been a great improvement in the football being
played and the use and development of local kids has been fantastic.
For weeks I have been wishing a bit of the urgency of an early Wilko
team or the gung ho of O'Leary's babes, or some of the grit of Wise's
bullied bullies, to add to the Wenger-like toothless pretty dominance.
When Macca arrived I was not too hopeful, as he hadn't impressed me as
having the sign of a 'manager' at Coventry, but I was hoping that the
great things clearly being developed could be harnessed, channeled,
developed into both a better manager and a better team....a pretty
passing and possession dominating team with teeth and meanness at the
back. I was hoping we might be able to bring in an assistant who
could guide Gary and the players in the ways that haven't been
happening, without losing the good things. And if we could have
managed that, would even another season down here have been all that
bad, if we were setting up a long(er) term view? Looking and Donny
and Forest this season, I wouldn't especially fancy our chances if we
make it up this time round, especially with a(nother) new manager.

As with O'Leary when it is easy to point at Kidd's influence, it does
seem that Staunton makes for a scapegoat. Defending was our primary
problem, presumably that was his job and it wasn't improving.
I would have been happy for a Bates Macca decision to swap Staunton
for perhaps a Wilkinson, George Graham, maybe even a Wise type of
assistant and see what they could do - especially if we could get a
win v Leicester.

Who next? I don't know. What do we want? A stop gap to win us
promotion? Someone to develop things a bit longer? I'd probably go
for proven experience without a Leeds link. Davies? Bassett was all
those things but didn't have any effect when he was here.
Grayson...another old boy. I liked Kamara at Bradford, but I think
he's cosy enough where he is. What about a Seaman Irwin partnership?
Lucas before he becomes President of SA?

enough
cheers
