Great respect to anyone who has gone to the game on a chilly night like this!
Glad to see we can get a game on when all but one around the country are off! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of DAVID NATTAN Sent: 06 January 2009 20:01 To: list leedslist Subject: [LU] reserves via LUTV Watching the reserves v Bradford at ER 0-0 at half time Is supposedly a strong Leeds line up Lucas, Gardner, Telfer, Assumani, Parker, Kilkenny, Howson, Johnson, Sweeney, Christie, Elliott Considering all of these, bar maybe Gardner and Elliott, would regard himself as a potential starter for the first team and all can envisage being on the bench they are not doing much to impress the watching new manager. We are lucky not to be 2 or 3 down and Lucas had been our man of the match so far, but pretty much by default. He had saved 2 one on ones - the second the worst attempt by a striker I have seen for a long time - 3 yards ahead of the defenders, ball under control and hits it tamely to the keeper, almost like a back pass. Lucas has saved another couple including tipping a dipping shot over the bar, but he has flapped and missed at one corner and punched another one very unconvincingly - no recall for him. The defence has been shocking - being torn apart on a few occasions and not knowing what to do when someone runs at them. The two centre backs (Telfer and the soon to be sent home Assoumani) being particularly at sea. In midfield we have been unable to keep the ball with all 4 of them mis-hitting passes. Sweeney has given the ball away very cheaply a couple of times. Kilkenny has done his normal sideways stuff coupled with lots of pointing, both Johnson and Howson have been quiet although BJ did hit one volley which "stung the keepers hands" Christie has also been peripheral but did have one sublime touch that led to a shot by Kilkenny, but we have struggled to get any space against a team playing with two banks of four in a very organised way. As for Tom Elliott - for his height he is worse in the air than Enoch and as for his touch on the ground I was trying to think of a different cliche each time he miscontrolled it but ran out after "touch of a rapist" "couldn't trap a bag of cement" "traps it further than other players kick it" He then nearly shut me up with a decent shot just wide and then an excellent turn and shot which the keeper saved, but despite these efforts he still does not convince me that he will ever make it. Just hope for a much better second half !! Is any lister at the game who can give a fairer report since it is hard to judge fairly on LUTV ?
