Well we won 1 -0 so a victory and a clean sheet !! Having said that apart from the last 15mins or so it was pretty dire stuff. It was almost the old "game of two halves" with us very lucky (mainly due to bad finishing) to go in 0 0 at half time. Second half we started by defending a lot better - they were restricted to a couple of long distance efforts early on - one well wide, one straight at Lucas. Then we started to get into a bit but with a total lack of quality, summed up by two instances, first Christie was up against the last defender but ran straight into him and was dispossessed and then Howson found some space with a lovely turn but then blasted well over. Christie went down injured and was subbed immediately - with Chris Ovington being brought on. Since he is a midfielder I am not sure where that leaves Enoch under the new management. Ovington at least brought some effort to the game and at last we started to play a bit with Howson and Kilkenny pulling the strings. Sweeney had a shot that the keeper blocked but it meant he was out of his goal and the ball fell to Howson, but instead of 'doing a Delph' he hit it wide. To be fair it was a long way out. Kilkenny took a great free kick where he moved as if to launch it into the area but played a deft ball down the left wing to Parker who put in a good cross met by Assumani and there followed an almighty scramble but somehow it did not go in. Johnson was about to pull the trigger on the edge of the box and was tripped but mishit the free kick along the ground. Elliot shot wide after good work by Howson and Johnson and we were in total control. Assumani was winning headers in the centre of the pitch and it was from one of these that the goal came in the last few mins. Their keeper kicked it and Assumani won a good firm header in the centre circle putting the ball up to Ovington on the edge of the box, he beat his man and drew the keeper and slotted it home. A well taken goal and a good bit of skill. In one way it was worthy of winning the game but in another way this game did not deserve a goal of that quality. I am not sure what Grayson will make of it all - Howson and Kilkenny did impress up to a point second half but were so poor first half I cannot see them threatening the places of Hughes \ Snoddy \ Douglas or Delph. Assumani looked a lot better second half when the game was played in the middle of the park but I cannot really see him being taken on. Johnson had a few long range efforts but did not do much to impress. The rest were all below average, Elliott is a long way off being a first team player and Lucas though he made a few good saves still looked shaky at corners and free kicks. Like I say though this is just me view from LUTV and it may have looked different live Dave PS for Matt Anderson - the undersoil heating did a good job the pitch looked good. They said it was the biggest crowd of the season but since they were under the cameras I could not see them - they made a bit of noise in the last 20mins when we were on top and the commentator kept moaning about how cold it was !! _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
