Had a couple of really cold games at Burnden Park, one over XMas which was ridiculously cold (you could see the pitch freezing during the game) and Tubby Tommy scored twice.
Then the Cup Game where Wallace scored the winner early on, which was the scene of one of the much told stories on our bus. Got held up on the way and arrived about 5 minutes late. First lad gets to the turnstile. "Oh you lot are winning" "Nah, you're lying. Who scored then " "Rod Wallace" "Now we know you're lying you ****" Nostalgia so much better than real life. There was also his other one at Bolton (Burnden Park) after about 6 minutes when the car park was like an ice rink and I was the coldest I have ever been when watching football - felt like -12C. As for Tony Yeboah's goal at Old Trafford I was behind the goal and he nearly missed from a yard out but it bobbled off his knee to give us a consolation in a 3-1 defeat. That was the year when I was threatened and followed by a nutter with a knife on Oxford Road and then pushed by the police off the forecourt into the running battles after the game - heady days -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of MATTHEW GAYNOR Sent: Friday, January 09, 2009 5:21 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected]; Matt Anderson Subject: Re: [LU] Tony Yeboah Aah that would be the game when Wallace scored after about 2 minutes and then Nigel Martyn kept them out single-handedly for the rest of the game, one of the best goalkeeping performances i've ever seen. To make it even better Wimbledon knocked out Man U the same night - when Schmeichel equalised in the last minute with an overhead kick but had it disallowed. We thought we must win the cup but then lost at home to Portsmouth. Matt --- On Fri, 9/1/09, Matt Anderson <[email protected]> wrote: From: Matt Anderson [email protected] Yes!!! I remember that one we lost though! On a similar subject anyone remember Massinga's best attempt to miss goal v Arsenal in the cup in Jan 97 the year we were supposed to win the cup. To this day my Arsenal mate bears a grudge against him (and me for that game) as they battered us for most of it. I enjoyed my walk to Finsbury Park that night!
