Spooky. I was going to ask a similar question later as I am sick of looking
through arse licking phone reviews.
I currently have a nice safe nokia N95, heavy and black a proper mans phone
(8 gig one if you are a geek) and am in the process of looking for a new
phone and have short listed it to Nokia N96, HTC Touch HD or iPhone.
I quite like the user interface on the iphone as it seems like the one on my
youngest's ipod touch but it doesn't have gps navigation on it (which can be
quite useful) and the email client doesn't do Hotmail apart from through the
browser, not sure if I would use it for music as my ipod has more storage
and a better battery life.
I am not keen on the case for the N96 as it seems a little girly but it will
do the same things as my current phone. I have no idea about the HTC except
that it runs a similar OS to my old ipaq (which hung at every opportunity).
One thing that I have learnt about the iPhone is that it can't run more that
one application at a time which to be honest seems a bit crap for a
smartphone in this day and age. I suppose that there is an app that will
combat this but that is not the point.
I know that you said that you don't like the G1 but I have heard that there
is supposed to be a 'G2' version coming out, it is going to be marketed as a
HTC Magic by vodafone.
New technology is a pain the arse, does anyone fancy a party line with
yoghurt pots and string. My eldest son found a 9 year old Nokia 7110 (matrix
style sliding cover) in a box in a garage and thinks it is the coolest phone
ever!!
Off on a tangent, I am looking at leasing a new car and would be interested
in hearing from anyone who has a Cayenne, Audi Q7 or Merc ML320, usual
stuff, servicing, cost of tyres, etc. Incidentally (and if anyone actually
gives a toss) porsche do the best test drives, they invited myself and the
current Mrs B for a day out at a skid pan with a range of cars from their
range. Result.

Am in a dilemma!
Just had to send back my lovely HTC Touch HD phone because my central
London
home location is not covered by an Orange signal!!!! FFS!!!! Contract
will
be cancelled and I'm in limbo!
I like an HTC windows mobile type phone and the Touch HD was the one for
me!
I'm now forced down the following routes I think
1 - iphone - never been convinced - all hype and no substance
2 - one of those Samsung omnia things which are basically a copy cat of
the
HTCs
3 - a o2 Serra - which is a HTC touch pro - which is an older phone that I
don't want to be lumbered with for 18 months
I don't want a G1 android phone, its ugly and cumbersome.
I have a blackberry bold for work so I don't really want a personal
blackberry as well.
I had a HTC Tytn II before this and I used it for personal email ( inc
this
list) loads of web browsing and as a modem plugged into my laptop. oh and
as
a phone to call and send texts. These are my absolute minimum
requirements.
Anyone got any ideas/ suggestions/ experience about what I should go for?
Ideally I don't want a 18 month contract and I don't mind paying a bit
towards the phone to get the freedom to change after 12 months!
Matt
