Not seen the film - and very much doubt it'll get beyond the UK &
Ireland - but am looking forward to seeing it.
(although am looking forward to seeing more the Red Riding that made it
on to TV recently).

I enjoyed the book, BUT, the part on his rise & fall at Derby was
written better and more of a compulsive read than his time at LUFC....

(getting my coat)

Spot on! In the tunnel you can see the "Revie Stand" and the 1990s built
east stand! I spotted that immediately but went over the head of
everyone else!

Also it was funny that they could only use one tiny corner of today's
Elland Road

Afterwards friends were talking about dirty leeds and I mentioned what
about Chopper harris, how did he get his name? Tommy Smith etc... all
thugs but didn't play for leeds so its alright!

I expected the anti Leeds thing to be worse but overall enjoyed it

I did think though that Clough's skill was in polishing a turd rather
than handling diamonds.... makes you wonder if he would have been any
good as England manager after all.....

Also saw it yesterday! Agree that the Clough part was played
wonderfully, but the guy who played the Don was just uncanny. Almost
like his double.

It was lighter than the book, moving away from Clough's internal
deliberations and concentrated on the humour. Some really excellent
observations about footballing in the late sixties/early seventies (I
loved the state of the Baseball Ground, and Clough putting out oranges
and an ashtray for each of the Leeds players). Think they overstated the
rivalry between Clough and Revie though.

What narked me was the reduction of Leeds players to simple stereotypes.
Hearing 'Marching on Together' at the opening credits was superb, but
then moving from two clips of goals (Clarke and Jones?) to numerous
clips of harsh tackles by Giles/Hunter just set the scene.
Bremner was made out to be a neanderthal, and Giles like something from
an Irish Braveheart. The scene where Leeds play Derby in the rain
(before Derby had to play Juve) was a disgrace in my view. Also, I'd
liked to have seen a bit more of the Liverpool tactics in the Charity
Shield match (though I accept Billy did lose his nut in that one) - and
some mention of tactics from other people like Chopper Harris etc to
show it was all ubiquitous in those days. It is also worth watching the
real YTV show when Clough met Revie (available online) to match it to
how the film portrays it - in my view Clough basically admitted he got
it wrong and had a lot of respect for the Don.

Minor point, if you go to all that trouble of recreating the old
grounds, why have the scene in the tunnel when Giles say about
justifying yourself to 40,000 and in the back you get the brand new
three-tiered east stand (or that's what it looked like to me)?
