A few years ago, I got back to England after months abroad and was desperate for a good old English breakfast. I had arrived by train from Paris, and I had an onward ticket up to Yorkshire. It was a beautiful early June morning, so I decided to walk from Waterloo to K's X, grabbing my egg chips and beans on the way. Imagine my ire as I found that every street had been taken over by either multinational franchises (Shitbucks, The Coffee Place, Au Bon Pain-in-the-arse etc) or poncy post-modern vegetarian/smoothie joints. Finally, I found an old traditional café, went in and to my delight, saw egg chips and beans on the menu. As I ordered it, I vented a long rant about how the whole of London had been taken over by poncy foreigners and it was impossible to buy decent traditional English food anymore, and I finished off by thanking the guy profusely for upholding good old English traditions. [You can guess what's coming, can't you.........] He replied with a slightly bewildered "Prego."

I think it was called Tony's, but don't know if it's still there.
