Well, I didn't get to the game, and I'm not that disappointed. Didn't want to risk it without a ticket, which is a piss-poor excuse as it's only a 15 minute train ride.
I agree there is something to worry about, but I don't think all is lost yet. You can't expect a team to play 60+ games a season without giving some players a rest sometimes. IMO you always pick the best defence you can, but the front 6 players need a rest now and again at the busiest times of the year. Howson, Kilkenny, Snodgrass all looked knackered at the end of the Spurs game. At least 1 of them could surely have been rested last night. I'd rest Howson on Saturday at Colchester. Perhaps give Kilkenny & Johnson a rest against Spurs & rest Snoddy & Doyle against Carlisle. Gradel & Grella could perhaps get a start or 2. Robinson (or is he injured), Kandol, Becchio could also play a part in some games. There's nothing to lose, as some players are running on empty, so let's see if the rest are up to it. As for Becchio. I've not seen much of him this season, but he does seem less effective than last. He still gives everything and wins balls in the air. But it doesn't seem to lead to goals or chances as much this season and it looks to me that when he gets the ball there's a more than 50% chance that he'll give it away. Beckford was superb against Spurs, but we can't expect him to do all the donkey work alone up front, and still have the energy, pace etc. to score all the goals too. He's also got to start every game as the goal threat is reduced by 50% when he's not playing. However, Larry ought to be more ready to take him off when a game is already won. I'm sure if he explained that to Beckford, he'd sort of get it. Still I guess we'd have just about settled for the current league position at this stage when the season started, but we need an undefeated run of 7 or 8 games now to get back on track.
