There's been lots of valid comment (and even more invalid conclusions ;)
about Beckford, his contributions and his "responsibility" for Leeds poor
league form.

My tuppenyworth is:

- first of all, once you get above 4th division, local pub league; the
hardest working position on the pitch is striker. There are not many
midfielders who cover as much ground as an attacker in any given team. You
also get out of the game what you put into it - ask Michael Owen if you
disagree with either of those points..... So my take is that Beckford has
really earned the goals he's scored for Leeds, especially as we are all
agreed that his "skill" sometimes/ often lets him down - and I'll point you
to his goal against manu to rest my case. I don't know about Newcastle but
I'm sure that Beckford's workrate is what Everton see in him

- the second point is more telling. How much effort did Viduka, Bridges,
Keane (all favourites of mine) et al put in for Leeds when they'd decided to
want away? Hell, how much effort did Seth whateverhisnamewas give to Leeds
when the going got tough, but he was happy enough to go back to Derby at a
fraction of the wages Leeds paid him. Hats off to Mr. Beckford for being a
true professional and continuing to "put in his shift" in a way that almost
no Leeds player of 5/6/7 years ago would have done. For me that has
transformed his image to at the very least respect.

I would hope that we go up as Champions, and that Beckford is an integral
part of that, and that he stays on and continues to score lots of goals for
Leeds. One of the (admittedly many) things that can scupper that, is the
attitude of Leeds fans.........
