Chris - sorry I read your email in a rush and didn't appreciate the distinction you were making. > You are addressing a point about the police being perceived as being heavy > handed and I understand that having been in a similar position myself. Please don't think I'm having a go at the police per -se - I have worked with some great officers in the past, and a good friend (and fellow match goer) is a copper. I don't entirely agree with the point of the police being in precarious position. I think when it comes to football (70's and 80's knobheads I know - but we're 20 years on) the police are incredibly risk averse and far too conservative in a lot of cases. Personally I feel that I'm in more danger of being smacked during a night out in Wakefield than going to the average Leeds game, but I don't see the police escorting me down Westgate ;-) > The main point I was making (which you agree with) is that a lot of laws are > made as a result of a knee jerk reaction to an incident, when really the > application of existing laws more effectively is the key, and example of > which is that the FSF continuously make comment about Section 27 when really > the police have similar powers with Section 60 (apart from the removal from > site for 48 hours) and have been able to move on groups of people for the > past 150 years. Agreement on the list? Shocking! Anyway, I've strayed off topic badly. Anyone like to suggest a team for tomorrow? Will Beckford be back?
