Please don't think I'm having a go at the police per -se - I have
worked with some great officers in the past, and a good friend (and
fellow match goer) is a copper.

I don't entirely agree with the point of the police being in
precarious position. I think when it comes to football (70's and 80's
knobheads I know - but we're 20 years on) the police are incredibly
risk averse and far too conservative in a lot of cases. Personally I
feel that I'm in more danger of being smacked during a night out in
Wakefield than going to the average Leeds game, but I don't see the
police escorting me down Westgate ;-)
