There was an interesting report in the news this week about a tax-exile
millionaire sued by the revenue for taxes because they argued that with all
his holdings in the UK he hadn't really left the country, even though he was
complying with the rule that he only visited the UK for the requisite 91
days or fewer each year and for the rest of the year lived abroad.

The revenue won their case although it has now gone to appeal in a higher
court.

Whether owning a football club in this country would be classed as having
enough holdings in the UK to disqualify one's tax-exile status I don't know,
but it could be another reason why Cuddly Ken, knowing this case was going
on, was quick to say that of course he didn't own Leeds United but was just
looking after it for a friend.
