As most of us know, the issue of football club ownership is a hotly debated topic within the media at the moment. This is an issue being raised across football in general not just at our own club. The Football League's incoming chairman, Greg Clarke, has also put the issue at the forefront of his plans.
Recently the Leeds United Supporters' Trust was contacted and asked for it's stance on the subject. At the time we did not feel we were in a position to properly give the views of our membership, so we declined to officially comment. We have always said since the new board took control of the Trust, that we would canvass the opinion of our members before making public statements on their behalf. This topic gives us a good chance to begin this way of communicating. The issue is not going to go away and we as a Trust need to have a position on the matter. Some members have been concerned that we have 'missed the boat' on this and should have commented at the time: I can assure all of our members that this is not the case and plans are in place to convey our feelings on the issue publicly through the media. We feel that the best way to canvass opinion is through taking emails on the subject. We think by simply creating a survey which gives members simplified statements: 'Am very interested to know who owns our club / am slightly interested / I do not care who owns the club' is not the right way to do this. We will take the time to look through everyone's thoughts and opinions on the subject and form a statement based on this. I hope this demonstrates the new board's commitment to always seeking the views of our members before making any public statements. We have said all along: 'One Voice, Your Voice' and this is the first chance for us to back those words up. Please email your views on the matter to: [email protected] New Website& Social Media Update <mailbox:///C%7C/Users/John/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/john.default/Mail/Local%20Folders/Inbox.sbd/LUList.sbd/Trust?number=46775692#> We are hopeful of launching our new website this week.
