labour party manifesto:
==================
Protecting the integrity of professional sport is vital: we will toughen measures to combat cheating and the use of illegal substances in sport. We will work with governing authorities to ensure that professional clubs are accountable to their stakeholders, and run transparently on sound financial principles, with greater involvement of local communities and supporter representation. Sports governing bodies will be empowered to scrutinise takeovers of clubs, ensuring they are in the long-term interests of the club and the sport. We will develop proposals to enable registered Supporters Trusts to buy stakes in their club.

green party manifesto:
==================
Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green Party, and candidate for Brighton Pavilion, was given a tour of Falmer stadium today, and she met with Martin Perry, of Brighton and Hove Albion FC. Caroline Lucas said: "At our autumn conference in September 2009, the Green Party passed policy to say that we would help football fans could take over their clubs and turn them into co-operatives." "Labour's newfound support for co-ops is another case of where Greens lead, others follow. Football needs to return to being about family fun, not about lining shareholder pockets." (1) "B&HA also do great community work, with football coaching sessions in Brighton and Hove's parks, and their award from the Football League Trust for Best Community Project for their 'Making A Difference' disability project."
*Notes:*
1) This is part of a wider policy where the party wants to gradually establish legal ways for companies to be transformed into mutual organisations, if a sufficient majority of the relevant workers or customers agree. The Green Party would push for a cooperative development fund, operating mainly through local authorities. This would provide initial capital on a matched funding basis for new cooperatives. When a majority of the season ticket holders, supported by the wider local community, want to bring a local club into mutual ownership, existing shares could be converted into non-voting equity or loan stock

Lib Dems and Tories:
=================
Nationally, the Conservative Shadow Sports Minister Hugh Robertson has been quoted as saying that there are other ways in which supporters can be guaranteed representation without needing ownership stakes, whilst Don Foster for the Liberal Democrats dismisses the idea of supporter-ownership as a ‘pipedream'.
