I saw that program - absolutely shocking..

As Mike says, there is a broad spectrum of mental illnesses and issues, on
the minor end of the scale there is no doubt they can be both affected and
maneged by diet, exercise etc.  On the other end of the scale there is no
doubt meds are necessary.

In this program it seemed any parent with a "difficult" child would go to
the doctors and get them on meds - they were pretty much universally
"diagnosed" as OCD or ADHD, and put on heavy meds.  Some parents there saw
it as the norm, and seemed to think it was a legitimate method of parental
control.. who needs a naughty step when you can tranq them up.

OCD/ADHD can be overdiagnosed or misdiagnosed , but I'll bring it back to
bipolar because that *is* a proper bona fide disease and the show wasnt
about bipolar or depression.
