Thanks to everybody for their suggestions. We went to the East Z East followed by the Lass O Gowrie. Thursday night is their regular quiz night and we won a bottle of wine.
Though painful at the moment, in the years to come we will look back and laugh at the comedy taxi driver who took more than an hour to take us from Ashton to the restaurant because he didn't know where it was and all his covert frantic texting and calls couldn't help him. The address didn't help him either because "there are 5 streets called that on my satnav in Greater Manchester" - he would have gamefully tried them all. Fortunately we saw the Ibis from a distance and got out, to which we got a "Oh, why didn't you tell me it was that one. When you said the Ibis I thought you meant the Urbis". To give him a little credit he'd turned off the meter.
