Before the fixtures are released, the Football League have a meeting attended
by various representatives, to go through a draft set of fixtures and see if
there are any problems and amendments that need to be made.

When I was on the national council of the FSA I used to go to this meetings as
a supporters' representative, and they were held in the FL's plush new offices
in Preston three days before the fixtures were officially released. The draft
fixtures were then given to the police on the following day, so see if they had
any objections to any matches being played on particular dates.

At the meeting I attended we were always told in no uncertain terms that the
draft fixtures we saw were not to be publicised ahead of the official release
date, because at that stage they were still draft fixtures and could still
possibly be subject to change.

It may well turn out to be right that we are playing QPR at home on the first
day, but the fixtures will still be in preparation and the FL won't yet have
their final confirmed set of fixtures.
