Kind regards, Sophie Best ---------------- FREE EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS FOR YOUNG WOMEN · Would you like to know where to access help when you have problems in the workplace? · Like to know more about your rights in the workplace? · Like to learn strategies for negotiating? · Do you feel confident about bargaining and negotiating your rights and conditions in the workplace? If these questions capture your interest, you may be interested in attending a series of seminars on how to negotiate your workplace agreement. Under the Employment Relations Act employees are expected to bargain individually for their rights and conditions in the workplace. This presumes that employers and employees come to the negotiation process from a position of equality. Young women entering the workforce on a casual or part time basis are particularly vulnerable in this process. Information and skills are required for the complex process of negotiation within the workplace. - Gain Confidence in the Employment Process - To ensure young women employees come to the bargaining process with a good working knowledge of their employment rights and obligations, the Women's Enterprise Connection and the Victorian Women's Trust are conducting a series of workshops throughout April 1999. The workshops will give young women an overview of their rights under the current legislation, the types of agreements that can be negotiated, and the skills and knowledge to confidently negotiate an agreement. The series will consist of four workshops which will run throughout April. Workshops will be free and informal. The less permanent workforce has created a new environment for management, staff and contractors, making it essential to keep abreast of Industrial Relations changes, rules and regulations. A challenge for women in management, as well as independent contractors, is to have a good working knowledge and understanding of the flexibility and restrictions of the new work environment, in order to steer through the rules and regulations. An understanding of workplace flexibility is imperative for gaining a leading edge. - Gain Confidence in the Employment Process - To assist women in business, management and those employed on a contractual basis, the Women's Employment Advisory Project and Madgwicks Lawyers will be conducting a series of seminars throughout May 1999. The seminars will give employers and independent contractors an overview of the current legislation, the types of workplace agreements and contracts that can be negotiated, and an understanding of the regulations and requirements regarding employment. Seminars will be held at Business Matrix, 288 Brunswick Street Fitzroy For further information contact Business Matrix on 9 411 4044.
