Human Rights Brief

A new publication from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission

HREOC is launching an occasional publication on human rights. Each number
will deal with a different aspect of human rights, and provide a more
detailed interpretation than is commonly available.

The first number focuses on "Best Interests of the Child". Future topics
will include equality before the law, children’s rights in education, the
rights of detainees and prisoners and freedom of religion and belief. HREOC
aims to publish 3 4 numbers per year, building a practical, authoritative,
on-line resource over many human rights issues.

Both paper and web versions will be published at first. Subsequent numbers
may be in electronic version only, and all numbers will be downloadable from
the HREOC web site at HYPERLINK http://www.hreoc.gov.au/human_rights/brief
http://www.hreoc.gov.au/human_rights/brief .

Human Rights Brief will provide lawyers, particularly in CLCs or doing
pro-bono work, with a resource they can use in further understanding and
applying Human Rights principles under Australian law.
