In solidarity with the East Timor refugees trapped in squalid camps in West
Timor, the Melbourne Free East Timor Campaign is calling on people to join
in a march for action. The march will be through the city on Sunday 8
October at 2.00 p.m.

Meeting at Flinder's Street Station we will proceed down Swanston St, turn
right down Burke and on to the steps of Parliament House. We encourage
participants to dress in the clothes of many of the East Timorese hostages,
rags and splattered in red paint to symbolise the violence and intimidation
they are subjected to. If you can't manage that please try and come in all
black or at least a black armband in mourning for the broken promises and
lies these people have had to endure over the last year. Please also bring
banners and signs.

There will be a sign painting workshop at the Victorian Trades Hall Council
from 5pm on Tuesday 3rd October, everyone is welcome to come along and help.
If you are making your own sign, slogans can be along the lines of: Disarm
militia now; No more promises, ACTION; Bring the refugees home; Stop militia
violence;Children are dying in the West Timor camps. We would also invite
other human rights groups to bring their organisation's banner and join us
in the march.
