Gene Technology rewarded
This week the Prime Minister's annual science prize went to Liz Dennis and
Jim Peacock for their gene technology research in isolating the genetic
make-up responsible for flowering in plants. The awarding of the prize to
genetic engineers is symbolic of the Federal Government's endorsement of
the technology as a whole.=20

However, deep concerns about genetically engineered foods, crops and
technologies continue - and today we hear from Bob Phelps of the Australian
Conservation Foundation's GenEthics Network.

OUT: " =85 gene technology."

Tassie continues to lead the way in=20
native forest woodchipping
While woodchipping continues to be on the increase in Tasmania, the state
Government has attempted to consult communities with regard to the future
vision of the tasmanian timber industry under the banner of Tasmania
Together. The Tasmania Together process has, however, been "shafted" by
political and logging industry interests, according to key environmental
groups. On Earth Matters today we hear from Geoff Law, Tasmanian Campaign
Coordinator for the Wilderness Society.

IN: "Well it's a project =85"
OUT: "=85 turning this thing over."
DUR: 10'02"
