WTO ambassador in Hobart Australia's ambassador to the WTO (chosen by the Howard government) will be speaking in Hobart this coming Friday at Parliament House from 11.45pm. This is the person designated to represent Australia at the WTO ministerial in Qatar in November. Ostensibly, his purpose in Hobart is to find out what we want him to take to the WTO meeting. The M1 Alliance has accepted an invitation to attend this meeting. It seems that most other invitees are representatives of business groups although apparently Unions Tasmania and some other more community oriented groups will be there. The M1 Alliance has called for a protest outside this meeting from 11.15am calling for the Howard government to boycott the November ministerial in solidarity with the global movement against corporate globalisation. If they insist on attending the meeting, the Australian rep should move a motion calling for the dissolution of the WTO as the most immediate move it can make to win global justice. Protest 11.15 am Fri July 13 Parliament House, Hobart For more info, phone 6234 6397 or 0413 976 638.
