ACTION ALERT: Leaflet Carlton Football about NIKE

Let's take our anti-sweatshop message straight to the heart of Nike's
support base…

Carlton Football Club members were sent a disgraceful letter in recent
months. It claimed, among other things that they would not be able to hold
their annual "media-stunt", their discounted Shopping Bonanza for members,
due to undemocratic and violent weekly protest at their CBD store in Melbourne.

This was no more than a shameless PR exercise. They have not since
re-scheduled their Shopping Bonanza at another store. Why? They were simply
using it as an exercise in slamming peaceful protests against their
undemocratic and violent labour practices.

It shows clearly the significant impact that these weekly protests are
having they had to respond to us, not simply ignore us.

Nike sponsorship of Carlton is a big PR plus for them. It helps them give
the impression that they are giving back to ordinary people.

And it helps to hide the fact that they:
+ Employ sweatshop labour internationally at as low as $2 a day
+ Benefit from the use of outworkers in the textile industry in Australia, who
are paid as little as $2 an hour
+ Readily encourage the use of armed forces the police against protestors in
Melbourne, the army against trade unionists organising in Mexico to silence
dissent

Say no to Nike's labour practices. Join us at the footy this Sunday.
