PERSONAL POWER, LEADERSHIP AND SOCIAL CHANGE

The 12th Northern NSW Heart Politics Gathering

21st to 25th September 2001

AN INVITATION

We invite you to share with us this year's Heart Politics Conference.

Heart Politics recognises the power of working simultaneously at the
personal and political levels to achieve change. Heart Politics conferences
have grown out of a recognition of our common humanity and its many
strengths and weaknesses.

The conference reflects this diversity and uses a range of strategies to
help people explore issues not just with their heads but also with their
bodies and hearts.

The theme of this year's conference is Personal Power, Leadership and Social
Change.

What is personal power? How do you develop it? How do you know you've got
it?

What is leadership? Do we want it? When do we need it? What type of leaders
do we want? What are the risks of leadership? How do you encourage our
leaders to be accountable and what does it mean to support someone in a
leadership role?

This conference will provide many opportunities to consider alternative
views of personal power and ways in which we can use this to enrich
relationships and explore our potency for dynamic and creative change work.

CONFERENCE STYLE

The gathering is a blend of conference, workshop and celebration. It will be
a highly participatory event.

There will be about 60-80 participants from a wide age range many of whom
will be newcomers at the conference. We welcome children and provide quality
supervision and activities for them.

While many of the participants will be experienced activists there will also
be a number of people new to social change work who are looking for a way to
contribute.

We will hear from keynote speakers, select workshops, join support groups,
participate in story sharing, enjoy music, dancing and relaxation time and,
hopefully, have a lot of fun. Participants are encouraged to network and
establish ongoing supports for their work and also to take time to rest and
recuperate.
