Ms Sue Johnson (30), the Socialist Alliance candidate for Grayndler and Ms Pip Hinman (42), the lead Socialist Alliance candidate for the NSW Senate urged the local community to support the march. Greens Councillor Sylvia Hale will be one of the speakers addressing thenight march, which will wind its way down busy King Street after gathering at the junction of King St and Enmore Rd at 5.30pm. Other speakers will include members of the Afghan community, other refugee communities, local unionists, pensioners and refugee activists. Ms Johnson, a public service facilities planner, said that many people in the local community were "disgusted at the bi-partisan support for the war against Afghanistan and the outrageous treatment of the few hundred refugees Australia has to deal with". Ms Hinman, a full-time human rights campaigner, said that PM John Howard "had shown a total disregard for the human rights of refugees" while promoting a war that will add to the 25 million refugees already fleeing war, oppression and poverty.
