The Nike demonstrators face court.
On 1 June 2001 five pro-labour activists were arrested outside the
Nike superstore in Swanston Street, Melbourne.
They were part of a demonstration that was in support of the right to
organise for workers in factories producing Nike products, and against
the anti-labour activities of the Nike company.
The demonstrations were part of an international network that works
towards improving the conditions of workers in the footwear and apparel
industries.
The five demonstrators were all charged with 'besetting' and 'not
following police orders'. They are all pleading not guilty.
The trial will begin on Tuesday 8 October at 10 am at the
Magistrates Court, Corner William and Lonsdale Streets, Melbourne.
