In June 2002, Kate Durham assisted the BBC's documentary maker Sarah
MacDonald to portray the Pacific Solution for a world audience, and for
the ABC's "Four Corners" program. The ABC has declined to show the
documentary, in spite of its great reviews and strong public reaction
when it was broadcast on British and European networks at the end of
September.

The documentary reveals the squalor of the Nauru detention camps, as
well as accusations of brutality - and even torture - perpetrated by our
defence forces on shipwrecked asylum seekers. It introduces the
opposition party of Nauru, and survivors who lost family members at sea.
It also speaks of Kate's arrest and assault by the manager of the
camps in Nauru.

At this special screening of "Australia's Pacific Solution", hosted by
the RMIT Community Advocacy Unit and Spare Rooms for Refugees, Kate will
talk about her experience of Nauru. She will also discuss Julian
Burnside's soon-to-be released report, "Soldiers, Sailors and Asylum
Seekers", which is based on the letters and sworn statements of the
detainees of Nauru.

HOSTED BY SPARE ROOMS FOR REFUGEES AND THE RMIT COMMUNITY ADVOCACY UNIT
supported by the RMIT Refugee Support Taskforce and the RMIT Globalism
Institute
