For those considering the CNC upgrade or the CNC machine here are some things to consider. CNC is not something that you can learn in a weekend. To get started plan on at least 200 hours of study. Look around your area for colleges that teach classes or someone that will help you. As for controllers there are a lot of them out there with all sorts of price ranges. I am running Bob Campbell's ,http://campbelldesigns.net/ . which is definitely an industrial grade controler. He is doing something right as he has sold over 10,000 controllers many of which are for industrial machine upgrades. He is working on a new controler that will use the new low cost Gecko drives for 3.5 amp motors and it should be in the $800 dollar range. The controler I am running used 7.5 amp motors and runs about $1400. I have on idea the quality of Legacy's controler as the have not posted any specks.
