"Well" Thank you, (Both Mike and Tim for you comments.)
Tim Yes all parts are solid, The best part about this job was since this
Gentleman wanted Poplar, I didn't have to buy any wood.I already owned the
lumber, All I needed to do was cut, glue, and turn all the pieces.
The owner came on by Yesterday and saw his column (before staining) He brought
over a piece of Mahogany that is going to be a companion to this,He said that
the two pieces were not going to be directly next to one-n-other, but he wanted
them to look like they were made out of the same wood. I think he will be happy.

The only real trick to this job, was the transition pieces, I glued them
together (using a paper joint.) and cut them as one piece of wood, then
separated them, drilled out the center of the turnings for the 3/4" for the
dowel that I use to hold everything together, then glued up.
"O" one more thing, I played with the assembly quite a bit before gluing , the
taper was originally suppose to be large side down, but after a lot of looking
at the piece, I thought the opposite was true, because of the size of this
piece, the small end looked better at the bottom, and tapering up. The owner
didn't notice or comment on it, so I guess my, on the fly decision was the
correct one.
I have to get ready for work.
Have a good day.
talk to you all latter.

Is the column solid or hollow? The stain turned out pretty nice. It looks
really elegant for being cheap wood.

    Hello Everyone.
I wish I thought about taking pictures before I finished this one.
The project is a pedestal, that a gentleman asked my to make for him.
It was made up of 5 pieces, the top (9"dia,) , two transition pieces
(6"dia,), the center column (5"dia-4 1/2"dia.), and the base.(6" square)
This project was almost completely done on the Legacy. The run time was 5
hours.

( I could have done this job a bit faster, But... I messed up on the top,
and had to start over again with a new piece.Dumb mistake, I forgot to tighten
down the tail stock, and while turning it moved, "Well" you can just guess
it,One huge chunk is now missing off the original.SO TAKE II.) ;-(

The wood is popular, but the stain is Red Mahogany.(General Finishes) this
column will also have three coats of Amber Shellac added before delivery.
