use a spade bit and drill a pocket in the center and use your chuck to grab the
hole. It's easier than drilling five holes in the right place.

On the thought of corian, you should also be able to make a drive dog size
piece of corian and drill the 5 drive dog holes in it. Then hold onto the
outside of the corian with a 4 jaw chuck. Larger diameter jobs require greater
torque and larger drive dog set would be needed.

I'll second Ebay for Corian scraps. Technically it is sold only to
authorized distributors, and some of the distributors actually take the
agreement not to sell to the general public seriously. I've also found the
material at building supply recyclers and discount sellers.

I agree Corian taps really well. I can't testify to the longevity of the
threads, but the next alternative is to add thread inserts such as Helicoils
to make a thread that will last virtually forever.

I personally don't like the dust that is given off when working Corian, but
it's interesting stuff. This topic reminds me I started to make a low
profile vise but never finished it. Thanks for the reminder.

Hello Everyone.
Im at work now,but still have a few min. before I need to start up for
the day.

I did an expermant this morning, I cut a peice of corrian and taped
it. a 10-24 and a 1/4-20 the screws hold very well.
my suggestion here is why not use corrian (cabnet countertop meteral)
for these palester dogs? The meteral is solid and very stable, it
works with any woodworking equipment, you can drill it,tap it,cut it
all by your self's. Why not use it for these dogs, and cut out the
middle-man,Size is unlimmited, and once you make them thay will last
for years,perhaps life.
This one is to easy not to shair.
Gota go.

Hello Bill
At the hospital that I work at, We had an very old elevator control panel
that used one straight chain, The links some how controlled the Elevators,so
that they would open the doors at the proper levels. (1947 vintage) It had a
gear that ran along a chain,More or less it was used very much like the
rack-in-pinion that Legacy's newer CNC machine use.
I dont see why it couldn't work on something like the Legacy?

Didn't you post a you tube video , where a man used a chain to run his
router lathe?
Tim and I have talked about this topic a lot in the past. (He has some
idea that are pretty neat. That I believe will work, along these lines.)
(Sorry guys, you are just going to have to wait to hear about his ideas
your self, from him.NOT Me.) ;-)
Now a chain loop would be easy to make, and ... I think its worth looking
into.Good luck on that one Bill.
Its time for my to hit the hay.
Have a good night.
I will talk to you all latter tomorrow.

I wish you luck, one note to think about, Yes you can buy 10'-12' of Amce
screw. But Legacy had a problem with flexing and bending of the acme screw
when thay made there own Large units.
They had to come up with a bridge system to support the screw and let the
carriage pass.
I can not find a picture now, but thay used a system,The bridges were like
a titer-totter, one end of the bridge is in contact with the screw at all
times, the bridge would tilt out of the way of the carriage when the unit
moved through it. I will find a picture when I can.
Now perhaps 10' you will not have the same problems, that Legacy had with
there LARGER UNITS (2000-2200 )
I cant wait to hear how this up-grade works. I still have my own dreams of
turning a 20' barley twisted telephone pole. ;-)

Hello Bill,

http://www.dependableacme.com/

Both Tim and Curt have recommended them in the past. They make threaded
rod in 6ft and 12ft length, but they will cut it. The rod is really cheap.
The shipping, we'll see, but it has to go by freight. I would have been much
better off purchasing 10 threaded rods. In any event, Tim is working on the
conversion kit for the 900.

Well all I thought I would give you all an update on my attempt to buy
from legacy. This coming week will be close to two months for a
simple order of pillaster dogs and a few hubs. I have been in contact
with Magnate a number of times and have expressed my concern that the
web site had been very misleading in that I had the impression they
actually stocked the items. My bad. I received a call last monday and
was informed that the items had drop shipped direct from legacy. So
here it is Saturday an no shipment. It would appear that Legacy is now
lying to Magnate about the shippment. Try as I might I have been
unable to even get a tracking number. So Legacy has won. I informed
Magnate that if they did not have a tracking number to show that the
items had indeed shippped on Tuesday as I was told to please cancel
the order and refund my money. I am seeking a vendor locally who can
make the hubs and dogs and will pay what ever they want but legacy
does not get another dime of my money...anyone who has a set of the
pillaster dogs that could help me out with some dimensions please
contact me off list at carlstig...@hotmail.com
