Isn't there a mounting location on your machine already for a motor?  There's a 
lot of messages in the message base so I'll give you some quick highlights 
(search  terms "Linear Drive Motor").

Legacy used a motor sold by Grainger 4Z131. They used a cheap speed controller 
that is no longer available but look at Grainger's site for a suitable one. 
From there the motor is connected with love joy connectors to drive acme screw. 
 You will need a dpdt switch for direction and a push button overide.  I found 
my motors and speed controller on ebay for dirt cheap compared to new prices.   
Limit switches are good, but I personally don't use them very often.
